<<Jose Luis Garcia Rua. For much of Asturian syndicalist [nort region of Spain] his name equals inspiration and example of struggle. Hovering around 90, García Rua remains fluid verb and the air of ascetic mystic who has found his own light to illuminate his reality. Garcia Rua welcomes La Voz de Asturias at his home in Gijon, spartan and transient. For a few days, the historic CNT syndicalist, thinker and philosopher, returns to the cold of their city from the south, almost mythical, from Granada, where he lives. Today, at 20 hours in the Old Institute, will conference about the 15-M movement [Spanish occupy the street] within cultural classroom activities that bears his name.

Has shed light 15-M to the worker movement? Are you surprised by the uprising of the younger?
In fact, I was waiting for this rise of young people for a long time. I always trusted much in youth, a particularly abused sector of population in the called "transition", that really was a democratic disguise. Since then, youth is an article for break in, a mental molding that is directed exclusively to a virtual hedonism, as what they call massive public drinking [botellon].


Do you think 15-M has serve for something or you see sings of collapse?
I think it does not crumble, but beware, because the power has too many instruments to divert it and the movement is able to walk toward nothingness. The will to become power to transform the system from within is misleading, because the state absorbs everything and transforms everything.


If I ment a figure: 5.3 million…[actual number of unemployed in Spain]
The Left has a lot of blame for that, because he has lost the original meaning of the word. It has gived up to the post-Franco period [dictatorship period 1939-1975] and has accepted a position from the fundamental reasons of Franco, to which our current Right has not condemned. Hence, arise cases like Garzon [Supreme Court judge that investigate civil war crimes, actually pursued by this].


Does not seem schizophrenic Garzon sitting on the bench?
No, not schizophrenic, but the result of the Spanish political situation, which is a consecuence of the mistakes made by us that fought for democracy and let be put in its place a fake democracy, which masks the problems. In “La Moncloa Pacts” [1977 state agreements, still in effect] we already saw what would Spain become in future. The worker movement tried to sneak into the power, which is a big mistake. That, in a way, is the legacy of the great mistake of Marx, who was searching the bourgeois revolution considering the state as a unifying institution. These errors had to be paid.


From your words it appear that the objective of the working class can not be arrive to the power...
Never. Power is the Leviathan, the pagan monster. Power is, in itself conservative. You enter with the intention to change and all you do is strengthen it. That called "social contract" in the French Revolution was nothing but an illusion. "Liberty, Equality, Fraternity" has come to nothing. That was perverted and now the state is much more powerful, because it has already reached the inside of people, who have internalized a way of doing things emanating directly from the Power. Returning to the 15-M, the danger is adhering to these siren voices that come from political parties and the state itself. If you simply ask for more popular participation and to change the electoral law, then the movement will be in vain.


What should be its goal?
Fight the stablish power structures and forget institutionalization, because we know where it lead. We must seek self-government, deal with society and the state and get that self-organize society.


Lets Talk about Asturias, what do you think that Cascos [Actual “Gobernator”] convening early elections?1
I heard something about that, but the truth is I'm totally detached from politics. Now, what I find is that Cascos is wondering him-self, "Why did I won the election?” And is that politics is a mistake as purpose and as method, is the same who wins if PP or PSOE or Cascos. They all will do the same.


The PP has started strong…2
PP is criticed, which has a month in government, announcing the cuts, but PSOE spent four years doing the same politc. Capitalism must be opposed from the base and not being cooperative with it. From what I see Rajoy apologice, such as "sorry for these cuts, but economic laws are insatiable, they have no other way to express”. He seems to mean that one must accept this reality and these cuts, and enshrined as one method of achieving future enrichment. This is how the world has fallen apart. I am convinced that self-management of production can be performed without these complications. Everything has become very complicated, the laws are variegated.


What do you suggest?
In this moments we have to proceed as with the famous Gordian knot, it could not be undone: we have to take the knife and cut it to undo. No half measures. The people must take the streets, but with Light, allowing the thought allows movement. Now that ideologies crumble, it's time to create a self-managed and conscious movement.


Let's talk about one of his passions: teaching. How you see the elimination of the subject of Education for Citizenship? [Laic subject substitute of religion in public schools]
What we have to ask is to have the same freedom to seek an education other than what the State provide. The State has it all in his hand: schools, colleges, the University ... It takes education to their side and attains kids disappointment. Power believes that Education for Citizenship will form kids in a democracy when democracy, as we do, is indefensible.


So bad situation?
If within the crisis some people get rich, if Spain have reached the 5 million unemployed and 8 million people living below the poverty line, what kind of democracy t hey talk? What the hell are telling? We have to break this in a lousy time, but conscious, measuring steps. There is a significant fact: during the Spanish Civil War, productivity in Spain grew by 60%. Why? Because it was the people itself who produced. It is said that Romanones 3, when released from prison and returned to his town, didn’t knew their own fields as they were so well maintained. He became interested in who had worked the fields and neighbors said had been the town in Co-operative regimen. Romanones told the mannager: "I want you to be my foreman," and the other replied: "I am not anyone's foreman”. That's the spirit. The worker is the one who knows how to work and must return to that consciousness.


Returning to teaching, you became revolutinarian with the project of a workers school in Cura Sama street, until they finished with it ...
No, I did not overpowered. Now I'm more radical than before.


But why did you bother?
First, because it was pay free. Then, because there were no differences between students and teachers. There was genuine brotherhood. I did not teach equations, but an education for life and that's the big problem, because a education like that disturbs any stablish power, more if it is a dictatorship. Power is not stupid and knows what can and can not be taught. Has specialists in the psychological domain of the persons. Men of action. I remember Ramos, the head of Asturias Political Police, who put me in jail several times. He told me one day: "Rua, you're a social beggar," and, finally, was right. He did not stop until he terminated with the school project I had in Cura Sama.


You are considered an inspiration for the Asturian unionism, but its essence is radically different ...
My big goal was to unite all anti-Franco [anti-dictatorship forces], without distinction, on a platform called Commune Revolutionary of Socialist Action (CRAS in spanish) but, seeing that the Communists pulled to one side, the Socialists for another and no one could agree, I quit.


Was not you tempted to get into politics?
Of course. The PCA [Asturian Comunist Party] wanted me to be his General Secretary. I told them I could not because it was not communist and they said, <<"That does not matter, man">> (laughs).It was impossible.


You was not communist because you was anarchist...
No, not at first. I became anarchist with time, but at first I was an admirer of Marx. The matter is that he failed seriously heeding Engels, which led to the dismantling of the International Workers Association and the drift towards a merger with socialism. Marx and Engels believed that the system would destroy itself, without intervention of the workers. Huge mistake. For a capitalist betray a worker causes a stir, but when a leftist betray their gender cause disappointment. You lose all hope. And that has happened in Spain from 70s. Now I don’t trust for nothing in politic, only in the popular will, but prescient, not blinded and without resorting to violence.


So bad the things have been done in this country? If, after Franco's death, Arias Navarro is replaced by Suarez. Do you know why they did it?
They did so after the King did a visit to the United States. Kissinger told him what he had to do, and there finish the transition, and a Constitution was design, that is a fable and in its eighth article justified the military intervention if a legally established government is changing the territorial structure of Spain. Does it sound like something familiar?4 Under the circumstances, how do you get out of this? I hope the youth movement lectured the working class, who is disenchanted with syndicalism and its passivity, which is incomprehensible. In my opinion, those who had to defend workers' interests and to fight capitalism have become part of the government, who subsidizes them. The youth movement, if authentic, if focus in their interest, will end infecting the working class but, attention, without falling into the violence, because that is candy for the State. Because we have to take into account that in this country a fraction of the population lives serving the State, but a vast majority suffers it. That should be the starting point to get to work, to work consistently and without falling into contradictions. This union truly will be our strength.>>

[1] Francisco Alvarez Cascos, former Minister with PP, now Presidet of Autonomic Community of Asturias with his new party Foro Asturias of right branch, wins election months ago but couldn’t pass the Autonomic budget for lack of support. He was forced to convening early elections.
[2] Right party who wins Spanish elections 2 monts ago, in 20th of November 2011. In 23th December announced a pack of public cuts for 9000 million €, around 10% of annual budgets. Mariano Rajoy is the actual President of Spain.
[3] Alvaro de Figueroa y Torres 1863-1950, Count Romanones, Liberal party, Minister of agriculture, famous for his richness, remained prisioner captured by republican during the civil war.

Production to offer vs production to demand, who will win? Round 1

LAW OF OFFER AND DEMAND:

The model is based on the relationship between the price of goods and sales of the same and assumes that in a perfectly competitive market, price is set at one point, balance point, in which there is a depletion of the market, this is, everything produced is sold and there is no unmet demand.

The postulate of offer and demand involves three features:

I. - When, at current price P, D demand exceeds offer the price tends to increase. When offer exceeds demand, the price tends to decrease.

II .- An increase in price tends to decrease demand and increase offer. A decrease in price tends to increase demand and reduce supply.

III: The price tends to a level whrt demand equals offer.

The market is the place where goods are exchanged, for money or not.

The law is fulfilled if there is fair competition.

The not sold offering is the stock or assets accumulated or stored.

PRODUCTION FOR THE OFFER.

The current production system. Those bids, which have not necessarily be the producers, try to create demand through advertising and and generate dependencies of secondary needs, generating consumism and speculation. The sellers in competition, resulting in the overproduction. Only an awareness of savings and knowledge of the true personal needs can slow, not stop, this tendency. The system moves around concepts that are circulary interrelated, unable to know the cause and affect or what is the most important. The system walks alone.

OVERPRODUCTION (superproduction): occurs to compete producting much more quantity and cheaper, so it results in the accumulation of goods. From the raw material just the part that brings greater economic benefits in the short term is use, all the rest is waste. In addition a degradation of stocks happend, increasing the residues. What leads to environmental degradation and consumption of nonrenewable natural resources. Leads to unemployment becouse the accumulation of stocks, stored goods waiting to be revalued and the inducted expiry or programated obsolescence of products to increase consumption. So that is created the concept of fashion or trend.

COMPETITION: in its strict sense, implies that if companies produce goods for money the success of one harm the rest. Theorically serves to reduce the fare for the complainant, but once a company dominates the market becomes monopoly or trust, increasing prices virtually without limit. Companies design products to make them more consumed, not to be more efficient or better quality, this is secondary. Implies a loss of quantity and quality of both raw materials and wages to reduce costs. Leads to aggressive and misleading advertising. Decreases the exchange of information, so there is industrial espionage. Creations are protected by laws of a copy right. Competition produces cartel cases -the companies stablish prices and distribute the territory- and self-competition -the company is divided into several brands that compete each other as they were different ones-. They try to diversify and find new applications for their products, occuping more niches. For example we find sindicates that offer turistic tours. Because the hypothesis of continuous increased of profits, a company is viable only if grows a percentage each year. The competition reaches the level of aggression, as in the wars for resources, oil, opium, diamonds, and business of arms.

CONSUMISM, CONSUMPTIONISM is the accumulation of unnecessary products, superfluous, produced by the acquisition of individual secondary needs. The individual assumes that society creates, but really are created by the advertising, in which its spends an enormous amount of resources through a constant bombing and omnipresence. This adds displays a set of social values that the individual feels natural and normal. It creates the concept of fashion and trend to justify sales. What makes people accept that these are ephemeral, so the product does not have to endure. Expiration is accepted and produced with an induced expiration. Some ignorance is need about the product to consume, so significant data about this product are hide.

SPECULATION that buyers purchase items, to be revalued, and sold. Buyer becomes offerer and beneficing from the difference. This leads to periodically increase of price of a product according to a cycle, for 6 to 10 years, until its price is unaffordable and collapses quickly, within 1 year for more or less, consumption and prices, causing loss or crisis.

Influence the trends, as invest in companies. Com in 90's, or currently construction, food and metals.

Another effect is the stock exchage markets, where it is invests in gambling companies that are believed to be more profitable and insurance companies, in which it is given s value to the risk.

ARE THERE ALTERNATIVES REGARDING THE MODEL OF PRODUCTION IN THE CAPITALIST SYSTEM?

Capitalism is the social order resulting from democratic politics, private property and unregulated economy, which allows the existence of markets and accumulation.

There is no alternative becouse by definition produces who has the means of production. They are producers, market intermediaries and banks, which control the production through property, investments and loans, controling the economy. Change the model means change hole the system.

OTHER MODELS OF PRODUCTION, PRODUCTION FOR THE CLAIM.

A more rational system would be the production-for-demand, in which goods are produced what is request, eliminating overproduction.

Imply that eliminating the market? see.

In theory prevents the accumulation of stocks in the producer, but could be acummulation on the “buyer”, to again become offerer, that is, to speculate. As the offerer is “buyer” we enter into a loop. Competition and overproduction continue. Production-for-demand is necessary but not sufficient.

NOMINAL OR PERSONAL PRODUCTION.

If there is nominal or personal production there is no accumulation in the consumer, to form a stock that becomes offerer. Now we remove the marking, exchange, becouse there is no sense to exchange one thing for another if you order it new.

Must be satisfied that:

a-producer is known and can not make or store more than requested by the consumer.

b-the consumer is known and can not sue or store more than they will consume.

c-a person or company can be a producer and consumer if don't accumulate.

It is lose anonymity at the exchange, ie exchange public, which is capable of being controlled at any point of production, transmission, distribution and consumption.

How to access services? Upon request, and take away or home delivery, which can create queues and waiting and a market of products and services for immediate consumption or unique objects. It could be solve increasing the production or services.

CHANGING CONCEPTS IN THE NOMINAL PRODUCTION:

Overproduction or superproduction- only can be given if allowed to accumulate assets. If it is eliminated the concept of planned obsolescence, fashion and trend it is loose. It would increase the durability of the products. To reduce the consumption and demand increase the quality and satisfaction with the product. SATISFACTION or complacency is the key to avoid overproduction. As it is not necessary to overproduce could only diminish the quality of products to supply a large demand on time. This is true PRODUCTION AS CAPACITY.

Increasing yield and profit of raw material decreasing the residues. To save,  production for the offer does not processed raw materials to the end, taking just the most valuable or easily processed, discarding the rest and creating a residue that is wasted.

Increasing the yield of raw materials increases the cost of personnel, equipment and facilities, or energy, but reduces waste and demand for this and other raw materials, which lowers the overall cost. 
Could be a unsatisfactory product wich could be reject. It could be discarded. If it is not neccesary nothing would happend. If it is neccesary the satisfactory sustitute product could create expectatives and so that speculation till the most part of population acces to it.

Competition, if it streamlines offer and comsum does not make sense that a person earn money exchanged for goods or property. It is only going to deliver what is need, and will be nominally. So private property would be eliminated. Companies does not obtein benefit but they continue to produce for the demand. The company must self adapt to this condition worrying only cover the demand. If no one compete nothing impede COLLABORATION and join forces.

Who owns the company? The whole of society, communal property, and its workers their operators. The company only grows when demand grows, which in final terms is when population grows, so there is a pasive growing .

- The company that offers a lower quality can request help for their adjustment to consum or gradually disappear.

- It should be favoritism to access unique goods or services. Is solved by increasing production or services.

- Should be the effect of loss of quality to satisfice the demand. It is solved by increasing the capacity of the company (either for labor, equipment, raw materials or facilities).

- It can be an imbalance of work load between companies, whose products are most popular. This requires knowing what they are most sought after redistributing work and accommodate companies to the new requirements

- It can be distribution of workload within the company, increasing favoritism. Investing is partly a solution, by increasing staff and equipment.

Consumerism: When competition is deleted advertising disappear. By eliminating the market avoids speculation. Social values change. There will always be the man his natural feelings of selfishness, envy and need for accumulation, but far from fashion, trend and market-imposed expiration. It remains only CONSUMPTION BY THE NEEDS:

-It should be an excess of demand or slow down that precludes access to a resource, with cases of accumulation of stock exchanges. To prevent this we must know what is demand, increase production and rationalize consumption: first to those most in need. Should be pursued to the accumulators of property.

-It could be a marginal market for used or unique products, but not new.

-It could be a difference between utilitarian products, necessary, and unnecessary products, superfluous. This last, to not disappear and be acepted, should be converted into useful, if not no one will demad them.

Speculation-only can be if allowed to accumulate assets. It could be a marginal speculation in the exchange of unique products.

CONCLUSIONS:

The law of offer and demand is not met, directs.

Production direct for the offer is logical but not rational, becouse does not adjust to the needs and circumstances of reality.

Competition, consumerism, speculation and overproduction are necessarily linked and you can't influence one without changing the others.

Production to demand by itself is not enough to change the mode of production, the system reverts to towards production for the offer.

The nominal, individual or personal production controls the offer and demand and avoids most of the drawbacks of both. Obviously not all.

Procurement of goods produced by application and taking away or delivery.

Private property is replaced by the individual and communal property, thus avoiding competition, consumerism, speculation and overproduction.

The values of competition, consumerism, speculation and overproduction contradict those of collaboration, consumption as need, and production as capacities.

Is capitalism in crisis? People believes it becouse of the current situation: global economic crisis, rupture of euro zone, Greece or the United States in menacing bankruptcy, rising prices, Arab nations rebellions, natural resource depletion, overproduction and expansion of china, japan disaster, war and drug traffic in South America, global warming, disasters ... This shows his doubts about the ability to resolve the current problems and the possibility of studying alternatives. But we must not be blinded by these situations. We must look at the root, which could cause real change.

Broadly speaking, this is so. Social order is defined by its politics, democracy, and economy, free market, which has a right as fundamental to its functioning, private property.

It would be in crisis if any of these fundamental pillars tend to change when the company was determined to switch to other political or economic system.

WHAT IS DEMOCRACY?

Democracy is a political-decision-making and regulation of interpersonal relationships system where each person has a share of power, decision-making, sovereignty, like the rest. The decision-making can be total or partial. If it is null no democracy exists there is monarchy or dictatorship instead.

But there is a difference between the total or partial democracy. Democracy is total if all individuals have sovereignty and are able to decide. As each one exercise sovereignty is an Autocracy. To live in society, group living, among all the possibilities you can only take a decision to reach one deal that everyone decides, accepting the decision of the group or split. So it is a Direct Democracy, without intermediaries. The decision-making body is called the assembly, Assembleary Democracy.

It is partial when the individual delegates part of its sovereignty. In institutional or REPRESENTATIVE DEMOCRACY , which is the existing, theorycally individuals choose their representatives to govern, make decisions, and this is the only way in which individuals can make an impact, the electiosn. This implies that they are managers of the institutions, politicians are those who hold sovereignty. It is the political parties who elect candidates, but not chosen democratically. Representative democracy does not exist, if not a dictatorship, as in many countries, an OLIGARCHY. The oligarchies may change, have more or less power, but if the system remains there. Any system that attack the oligarchs may be a seed of change.

According to the INE Spanis Estadistic National Institute, in 2011 there are 8112 mayors, 65896 councilors, 1206 autonomies parliament, 1031 provincial deputies, 650 national deputies and senators, 139 responsible for Councils and Island Councils and 13 directors of the Aran Valley. TOTAL = 77,047. According to raw data, only 1.7 people in 1000 take decisions. Go Go democracy!!

WHAT IS THE FREE MARKET?

Freedom economy, as it is said, is based on private property, which allows the accumulation of goods and free trade. The free market. Private Property as long as there will not matter how the exchange of goods and services, barter, market, money, loans... the result will inevitably be the accumulation and abuse. Producers, consumers, buyers and sellers can change their status and move from one group to another, but there remains the current system. Any system that does not use this right can produce theoretically the change. And there is even less systems.

CONCLUSIONS

The current situation raises questions about changes in the validity and viability of the system wondering if there are alternatives.

Not all social orders can change the system, because if you have the same characteristics and nuances the result is a similar system that will not bring any substantial change.

Deleting indirect democracy and remains free markets and private property the accomulation continuous. The person who else has will be able to dominate others with less. If he can make them work, even the return of goods and services, they must cede some sovereignty and decision making, so the system will revert gradually to the oligarchic state.

If the free market and private property are remove  and remains the oligarchies tend to get benefits and privileges over the rest of citizens, so they can have all the goods and services that enable its position above the rest. We would have a dictatorship, like in sovietic rusia.

Just replacing both oligarchies and private property by other menagement systems, such as direct democracy and individual and communal property, will change the social order and therefore capitalism.

The first step of change is recognizing the problem is given. Recognize a problem, it includes studies causes and effects, evaluate alternatives, choose solutions and we set off.

People see the way but know that, because of vested interests, the oligarchs and supporters of the current system will not yield power without exercising acumulated violence, which is what ultimately the system is based on.

The current trend is the accumulation of goods, the polarization of society, so that the oligarchs are getting stronger, keeping private property.In europe political oligarchies are growing. That is showen becouse public money moves 40% of national economies, 30% more tham at the beginnig of 20th centrury. And is increasing every year, like in north contries.

We conclude that capitalism is not in crisis, it works as it does, and its getting even more force. It was developed over more time than we think and will stay longer than desired. It enjoys very good health.
